Η εμβρυολόγος-γενετίστρια Δρ Ελένη Κοντογιάννη ειδικεύεται στην εξωσωματική γονιμοποίηση και στην αντιμετώπιση της υπογονιμότητας.

Περισσότερα από 7.000 μωρά γεννήθηκαν στην Ελλάδα και τη Βρετανία τα τελευταία 25 χρόνια με τις κατάλληλες τεχνικές υποβοηθούμενης αναπαραγωγής που επέλεξαν με την ομάδα της και εφήρμοσαν ανάλογα με τις ιδιαίτερες ανάγκες κάθε ζευγαριού.

Είναι η γενετίστρια που έκανε την πρώτη προεμφυτευτική γενετική διάγνωση (PGD) παγκοσμίως, στο Hammersmith Hospital του Λονδίνου το 1990, με τους καθηγητές Sir Robert Winston και Alan Handyside. Με την πρωτοποριακή αυτή μέθοδο μπορεί να διαγνωστεί η γενετική ασθένεια πριν μεταφερθεί το έμβρυο στη μήτρα και να αποφευχθεί η γέννηση παιδιού με σοβαρή γενετική πάθηση.

Εργάστηκε στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία για οκτώ χρόνια στο Institute of Child Health και στο Hammersmith Hospital στο Λονδίνο. Στην κορυφαία μονάδα εξωσωματικής γονιμοποίησης του Hammersmith Hospital, που είχε από τα υψηλότερα ποσοστά εγκυμοσύνης στον κόσμο, απέκτησε τεράστια εμπειρία στην αντιμετώπιση των πιο δύσκολων και περίπλοκων μορφών υπογονιμότητας με εξωσωματική,  μικρογονιμοποίηση (ICSI), προεμφυτευτική γενετική διάγνωση (PGD), γονιμοποίηση και καλλιέργεια εμβρύων, κατάψυξη εμβρύων και σπέρματος και σε όλες τις τεχνικές για την υποβοηθούμενη γονιμότητα.

Είναι Senior Clinical Embryologist, πιστοποιημένη από την EHSRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology).

Εφαρμόζει όλο το φάσμα των πλέον πρωτοποριακών και αποτελεσματικών τεχνικών στο εργαστήριο ώστε μαζί με τους κλινικούς συνεργάτες της, να πραγματοποιούν το όνειρο των ζευγαριών να φέρουν στον κόσμο το παιδί που επιθυμούν.

Η Δρ Ελένη Κοντογιάννη επίσης διδάσκει στο μεταπτυχιακό τμήμα Αναπαραγωγικής Ιατρικής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών.
